Brighton & Bognor Regis - December 2000
Brighton
This was my first visit to Brighton and I was impressed.
A really diverse place with nice shabby bits and smart bits and a surprisingly
wide array of shops. Not quite as interesting as Plymouth or Swansea, but
much more interesting than all the other bits of 'fake London countryside'
bit of Sussex put together.
I must admit, I know virtually nothing about the Royal Pavilion, but you
can
find out more here. Hardly in keeping with a British seaside resort - not an arcade machine
in sight.. |
Brighton Pier
The waves are surprisingly fierce by Brighton pier.
As this lady discovered.
Unfortunately as it was cold, dark and very windy, the rides weren't running.
The contrast of the white against the dark sky was still looked great.
I should have asked these people to stay still while I took the photo.
These young revellers demanded to appear on the website. |
Not an original shot - but nice. |
Bognor Regis
I like British seaside towns in the Winter and have never
been amused by the ancient joke-'I went to Cleethorpes, but it was closed.' But
with Bognor on this Sunday in January it really was closed and deserted! I've
never seen anything like it - the only place that was open was a cafe.
Sim enjoys jelly & ice-cream in a local eatery - the only business open in
the town. |
Who could think that a house of that size had this much guttering?
Where would be without pictures of a pier in every photo page?
The beams and pillars of the pier draw you in ...
Must be funny to plumb up a pier. No need for a Saniflow if you want to
fit a new WC.

There seems to be allot of spare girders on the beach at Bognor? |
This wiring on the underside of pier is scary - good job there's no salty water
around to splash it. Is this pier double insulated? |
What odd bylaws they have in Bognor. Do the police have strong arms, or do they
have special nets?
